What is Rule #1 about working from home? You will only be successful working from home if you are happy with what you are doing.

What makes you happy? This is a more difficult question for some than it is others. If you truly want to be profitable at what you do, you need to be passionate about it. Working at home has benefits, like working at 3am if that suits you and going to work in your pajamas. There will be challenges to work through, but if you love and believe in what you are doing, nothing will be insurmountable to you.

To this end, I have an assignment for you. List 5 or 10 things that you enjoy doing in life. Don’t worry if you think there could be a job in what you come up with. Just put down the first things that come to mind.

For me, this would be:

• Writing
• Reading
• Digital Art
• Research
• Learning
• Solving challenges
• Video Games
• TV
• Sharing knowledge

For someone else, it could be:

• Sports
• Hanging out with friends
• Wine
• Helping friends with parties
• Scuba Diving
• Traveling
• Shopping

For each one of these, I can see opportunities that would allow you to start making a profit from home. It takes time, commitment and passion for what you do to make working from home work.

Don’t worry, if you cannot figure out at least five things that you enjoy, put your pen and paper down for a bit. Sleep on it and then talk to your family and friends. I am sure they can help you out.
